Vigil for Climate Action

As the government backtrack on climate pledges Green Party members joined Saffron Walden Quakers in a Vigil for Climate Action on Sunday, October 1 outside the Friends Meeting House on Saffron Walden High Street.

Quakers have a long history of social action in the community, and the vigil was part of the annual Quaker Week.

Edward Gildea writes : "We are leaving an appalling legacy. sown, but the immediate injustice is that the poor of the global south are already the ones reaping the consequences of our selfish addiction to fossil fuels."

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the 2021 IPCC report was nothing less than ‘a code red for humanity. The alarm bells are deafening, and the evidence is irrefutable’.
